At Sunny Day Therapy, we support autistic children and adults by building connection first—then skills follow. Our approach blends neurodiversity-affirming care with sensory integration, emotional regulation, social understanding, and real-world independence.
Therapy is individualized, strengths-based, and rooted in each child or adult’s interests, communication style, and nervous system needs. This page focuses on our pediatric Autism therapy services.
PLAY Method Therapy
Building connection through circles of comfort and interest
We use play as the foundation for engagement, trust, and growth. The PLAY Method helps children expand their circles of comfort at a pace that feels safe and natural.
Through meaningful interaction, we follow the child’s lead while gently stretching social and emotional capacity. This creates readiness for communication, flexibility, and shared attention.
Over time, play becomes a bridge to connection, regulation, and learning. For teenagers, this may look like using leisure interests and hobbies to plan a balanced life.
Story Power Therapy
Making sense of emotions, experiences, and daily life
Story-based therapy helps children understand themselves and the world around them. We use narrative, visuals, and structured storytelling to support emotional understanding and flexible thinking.
Children learn to process experiences in a way that feels predictable and empowering. This reduces anxiety and supports smoother transitions in daily routines.
Stories become tools for confidence, regulation, and self-expression.
Zookeepers Social Emotional Learning Curriculum
Building emotional awareness through playful structure
Zookeepers is our structured SEL curriculum designed to make emotions understandable and actionable for children. Each concept is introduced through engaging, memorable animal-based themes.
Children learn to identify feelings, understand body signals, and practice regulation strategies in real time. This supports emotional growth without overwhelming abstract language.
Thus, skills generalize into home, school, and community settings. Our home program tools (visual support cards) are fun for children and help clients remember goals.
Visual & Environmental Supports
Creating clarity, predictability, and independence
We design environments and visual systems that reduce overwhelm and increase independence. This may include schedules, visual cues, transition supports, and structured routines.
When children can see what is happening and what comes next, anxiety decreases and participation increases. Supports are always tailored to the child’s developmental level and sensory profile.
The goal is greater confidence and smoother daily functioning.
Sensory Integration Therapy
Supporting the nervous system for regulation and readiness
Many autistic children experience differences in sensory processing that impact attention, behavior, and emotional regulation. We address these needs through individualized sensory strategies and therapeutic activities.
Intervention may include movement, deep pressure, regulation routines, and sensory-motor activities designed to organize the nervous system.
When the body feels regulated, learning and connection become easier.
Parent Training & Coaching
Turning therapy into daily life progress
Parents are essential partners in therapy. We provide coaching, education, and practical strategies that can be used at home, school, and in everyday routines.
Support focuses on understanding behavior through a sensory and regulation lens, while building confidence in responding effectively.
This creates consistency, reduces stress, and strengthens long-term progress.
